Welcome Kindergartner’s!

On Thursday, August 16th, 2018, Kindergarten students were welcomed to USD 475 with enthusiasm and excitement for their future with the district. The first day of Kindergarten is always full of new adventures for students, teachers, and parents. Each school did their part to ensure every student is set up for success this school year.

Many of the school’s first day of Kindergarten included icebreaker games. Milford Elementary played hot potato and danced to warm the students up for the school year. Jefferson Elementary gave Kindergarteners a tour of the school so each student knows where to go for gym, recess, lunch, and other outside the classroom activities. They also learned how to sit quietly and listen during story time, where they practiced raising their hand if they needed to ask questions.

Many of the Kindergarten classrooms in USD 475 make use of Smart Boards. These boards are large touch screens that allow students to interact and learn in exciting and unique ways. Washington Elementary showed their Kindergarteners how they will be using the Smart Boards for “Brain Breaks,” where students can switch their mind from a tedious task to something fun- like dancing!

Franklin Elementary introduced classroom rules and assigned students to tables labeled with different shapes. Students learned to listen for their shape and quietly find a spot on the carpet when called. Grandview Elementary also introduced classroom rules and practiced lining up to walk down the hall.

USD 475 is excited to see all the great things these Kindergarteners will do and would like to extend the welcome to all new parents in the district. Remember to keep contact information up to date and check back for more details as the school year continues!
